Exploring NYC & Beyond by Train πŸš‚

πŸ‘‹ Greetings from the Big Apple!

It's been a whirlwind since I've been back stateside... I landed in Miami, then started north via the high-speed Brightline train to kick off my flight-free trip up the East Coast.

From Florida, we took an overnight train to DC, then the high-speed Acela to New York which arrived at the beautiful Moynihan Train Hall. I was here for my first Women in Travel Summit (WITS) in Downtown NYC, which was a great experience!

My focus in the next few months will be on slow travel, and trying to do as much as I can overland. While flight and car-free travel isn’t as popular yet in the US as it is elsewhere, I’m excited to give it my best try and see how US and Canadian trains stack up with those I’ve taken in Europe and Asia.

Stay tuned!

(As always, if you want to follow along, the highlights will be on Instagram.)

Do you know any dishes, restaurants or food-related festivals near Amtrak, VIA Rail or Brightline stops that are worth traveling for?

Have a favorite train route in North America (or elsewhere)? πŸ‘‰ Hit reply and let me know!

In case you missed it...

I was a guest on the Bougie in a Backpack podcast recently and the episode is now out! (Click the link to listen)

I also got to meet Angel & Mackenzie from Bougie in a Backpack in person at the WITS Summit in Downtown NYC last week. Our boat left from the same pier as the one that crashed into the Brooklyn Bridge less than 24 hrs prior! 😱

P.S. Did you like the new image in my header? I was so lucky to be gifted a photo shoot from my friend Noemie Deveaux before leaving Istanbul. We spent a few hours on the ferries between the continents and wandering in the colorful neighborhood of Balat. Highly recommend booking a session with her if you'll be in Istanbul!

πŸ‘‹ Hi friends, It’s been a rough week for news headlines hasn’t it? As the world becomes smaller and smaller and information travels more quickly, it's easier to feel connected to disasters unfolding in the news. What I've been trying to do when I am overwhelmed by the headlines, is to look for small pockets of joy to stay grounded, and also small ways that I can help from afar. Missing my favorite spot to find peace: riding the ferries on the Bosphorus One way to help ❀🩹 World Central Kitchen...

πŸ‘‹ Hello from Washington, DC! After a few days to reset and catch up at a friend's place in New Jersey, it was time for my next train, southbound once more. I could have departed from Moynihan Train Hall in NYC again, but instead I opted for Newark Penn Station to try something new. I loved looking up at the Art Deco details in the high ceilings, the floors and the information kiosk in the middle of the waiting room. Three globe chandeliers are suspended overhead, with the animals of the...

πŸ‘‹ Well, that was quite the journey! After nearly two months back in North America, I took my last planned train ride (for now!) to get from Buffalo back to New York City via Amtrak's Empire Service route which runs through most of the state. I was curious about the total mileage so I decided to add it up! In total over the past 2 months I've spent close to 68 hours on trains. The 10 segments totaled more than 3100 miles (5000 km) and took me through 2 countries, 11 US States + DC. I won't...
