👋 Aloha from DC,
Three years ago tomorrow, fires devastated Lahaina and parts of Upcountry Maui. For me, the most meaningful way to mark the day is not just to remember what happened, but to keep paying attention to the people and organizations doing the long work of recovery.
If you're on Maui, you can volunteer on a community workday with Mālama Kula or take part in Lights for Lahaina rememberance. Elsewhere, you can donate, support trusted Maui organizations, or read and share stories from local voices. >> I've gathered current resources on my Maui Fires page. One upcoming project I'm especially interested in is Maui Public Art Corps' Hui Mo‘olelo event at NYU, which will bring Lahaina stories to New York on September 18th. If you can attend this one, I might just see you there...
✨ Until next time,
